Beer Week Beer Dinner

We love collaborating with Kinley's on these dinners. Chris and Pamela, along with Heather from Specialty Imports picked out the beers. Brett designed the menu and Marty from Kinley's is the mastermind of the beautiful execution for which Kinley's dinners are well-known.

The theme is Classic versus Twisted pairings. For each course you'll receive two beers, one you've likely had or seen and one less common, or a twist on the style.  We'll be explaining the motivation for each pairing as we go along so you can learn the method to our madness and ask any questions that occur along the way.

Click here to read the menu in its entirety. Looking forward to seeing you during AK Beer Week!

Cider Soirée

Hard to believe we've been hosting this cider event since 2012! Time flies when you're having fun, for sure.

We love hosting Cider Soirée at Reilly's because Ireland has a bit of cider history itself. Plus it's a very comfortable old school Anchorage bar with super nice bartenders and the lovely owner Jeannie Reilly.

We'll be offering three different cider flights for purchase from 6 PM until at least 9 PM.

Special guests from JK Scrumpy and D's Wicked Cider will be making the rounds to meet you and talk about all things cider. And of course, our La Bodega crew will be on hand to make sure the night flows smoothly (and hand you a coupon!).

Sour Beer Class

One of our most well-received classes of 2016: Sour Beer! We're bringing Andrew back to teach a love and knowledge of all things sour.

Class is from 5:15 - 6:30, held in the small room across from our "mini-Bo" in Spenard. This will be our first class in that space for 2017.

If you attended Sour Beer Class last fall, rest assured you'll be tasting an entirely new lineup. So while some of the info might overlap, there will be plenty of new beer and insight to enjoy. Plus it's always good to reinforce your knowledge of a subject as complex (and tasty) as this.

$15 tickets include beer, knowledge AND small bites from Hearth. Purchase your seat by stopping by or calling mini-Bo: 274-0826.

Mountain View Monday

One of Anchorage's hidden gems, West Berlin in Mountain View rocks a killer German beer selection year-round to complement their traditional German fare.

West Berlin was the obvious choice for La Bodega to host a release event for several new-to-market German beer offerings. Tasting flights will be available for purchase and we hope you'll consider staying for dinner and making a night of it!

No need to be there at a specific time - flights will be available for the duration of the dinner service, from 5-9 PM.

Danke Schön und Prost!

Beer 101 Class

Learn about classic beer styles from Chris and Deirdre, long-time La Bodega all-stars! Plus, get technical brewing insight from Cole of Resolution Brewing.

Featured styles will include: German Pilsner, American IPA, Sour, Bock, Dark, and Belgian.

Cost is $50 per person and well worth it, not only for the knowledge and beer but also for the La Bodega coupon that will help you on your journey through classic beer styles after the class!

Just click the pic to purchase your seats. Let's get educated!

Cocktail Club: Apertifs & Digestivs

Apertifs & Digestivs was our most well-received Cocktail Club of last season.  We are stoked to host it again.

Presented by Shawna of Spenard Roadhouse and Nikole of La Bodega for a Cocktail Club perfectly timed so that you have some interesting new knowledge and beverages to bring to the many upcoming holiday parties!

Event begins at 8:30 P.M.  $39 ticket includes the guided tasting magical evening that is Cocktail Club.  And food!  Small bites, that is, by the Roadhouse.

Tickets are sold ONLY at our mini-Bo next to Middle Way Cafe and space is very limited.

The British are Coming!

The British are here, in fact!

As part of our Winter in the Woods Tasting Series, we are featuring all sparkling in the upcoming flight this Tuesday, December 13th.

The first two wines will indeed be from merry old England, Hush Heath Brut and Rosé.  And the third in the flight is the ever-lovely Domaine du Prieure Cremant de Borgogne, a not-champagne-but-incredibly-delicious-and-a-killer-value-bubbly.

Chef Andrew Brown is designing a three-course tasting menu to pair with our flight.

If you can make it promptly at 5PM, Pamela from La Bodega will be giving a "formal" talk on the wines.  That is, we'll taste together and go into what they're all about.

Or, come to Jack Sprat at your leisure that evening to enjoy the night on your timeline.  We recommend ordering the flight and the tasting menu to experience the whole magic.

Cheerio!

What we learned at Sake Class

Will and Pamela traveled to Portland last month for a 3 day advanced course in sake, taught by our mentor and good friend Markus Pakiser.  We were in good company with students from across the U.S. and many attendees from Sake One in Oregon.

Next Tuesday at our mini-Bo we'll be doing a presentation and tasting to share our newly acquired knowledge.  It begins promptly at 5:15PM and will wrap up at 6:30 on the dot.

Tickets are $15 ea. and available at our Mini-Bo, that is, the one next to Middle Way Cafe.

Thanksgiving Pairings

We're excited to share with you our favorite Thanksgiving pairing ideas!

This will be held in the small room across from our new "mini-Bo" in the Northern Lights Mall.

Looking forward to seeing you and helping you select the perfect libations for your wonderful Thanksgiving meal!

Gladys Firkin Tap at Snow Goose

This is the second year Sleeping Lady Brewing Co. has brewed the Gladys Golden Ale in collaboration with La Bodega.  It is rather delicious, if we do say so ourselves!  Head Brewer Greg Mills also took the Gladys and made three different Firkins - the first of which is being tapped (and probably completely consumed) on Wednesday, Nov 19th.  Hope you can join us!
Sleeping Lady Brewing Co. Gladys 2014
This beer is brewed in honor of Gladys, La Bodega's shop goldfish at the University Mall.  She left this world in 2010, but she left a lasting impression with her swirling throughout the tank and making children happy.
This year's Gladys is a strong American-style Pale Ale.
6% ABV with an orange color to match the lovely Gladys.
Hopped with a blend of equal parts Australian Galaxy and American Citra and Galena hops.
Dry-hopped with Galena and Galaxy.
The resulting aroma is citrus with heavy Tangerine.
The flavor is a moderate malty sweet body with hits of bitter orange hops.

Meet and Greet Wine: Torres Chile 2013 Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc Reserva Central Valley
A fresh, pale gold color, with a blend of aromas reminiscent of ripe, tropical fruits, over underlying hints of apple and fennel. Silky on the palate with good acid structure and a prolonged finish.

Espinaca Con Queso
Torres Spain 2013 Viña Esmeralda Dry Moscato DO Catalunya

Intense and full of fresh fruit aromas along with exquisite notes of white flowers such as orange blossom. Elegant and smooth on the palate with delicate acidity reminiscent of citrus. The delightful character of the Muscat grape comes through on the finish.

Pork Chili Verde
Torres Spain 2010 Ibéricos Crianza DOCa Rioja

Bigarreau cherry in color. Intense nose with traces of plum and black fruit compote accompanied by dark-roasted spice notes from aging in barrel. Sweet on the attack with mild tannins. Long, spiced finish.

Beef Taquitos
Torres Spain 2010 Gran Coronas Cabernet Sauvignon DO Penedès
Great aromatic complexity, with notes of spices such as black pepper and clove set against undertones of woodland undergrowth and dry leaves. Mature and jammy on the palate, with well-structured tannins and good concentration. A wine defined by velvety elegance.

Torres Orange Liqueur Flan
Torres Orange Liqueur DO Catalunya

In the 19th century, Jaime Torres recovered a secret recipe for an ancestral liqueur that had reached the Antilles islands during Columbus' travels. In the Torres cellars, he macerated bitter orange skins in vintage brandy, adding wild herbs, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, Cienfuegos coffee, Cuban molasses, and orange blossom honey. After leaving it to age in old casks, he obtained an aromatic elixir, with a silky smooth body and exceptional nobility. Today we continue to make this intriguing liqueur, remaining faithful to its original spirit.

Italian Wine Dinner featuring Small Vineyards

The Southside Bistro is hands down one of the best restaurants in Anchorage. Since 1995 (yes, 1995), they have been happily serving world class food, beer and wine on edge of Anchorage, that is, Huffman.  :)

The Bistro is so busy with neighborhood diners that hosting wine and beer dinners is tough.

However, they were so excited about the opportunity to team up with the importer Small Vineyards that they are opening up on a day they are normally closed!

Chef Travis Haugen has designed a 6 course menu for the evening with wine pairings, $95 per person.  There are still a few seats available - to reserve yours, call 907-348-0088.
